Neonatology
Neonates (<1 month old)
- Temp: 36.5 - 37.5 deg C
- BSL: >2.5 mmol/L
- Heel-prick blood test usually done 48-72 hours after birth. Tests for:
o Cystic fibrosis
o PKU (Phenylketonuria) – "Guthrie test" is the specific test for PKU
o Primary congenital hypothyroidism
o Galactosemia (unable to metabolise galactose)
o Rare metabolic conditions
