Symptoms
- Pallor
- Irritability, lethargy
- Anorexia
- ? blood loss (Fe def)/ jaundice
- ? birth wt
- ? chronic disease (eg. G6PD)
- ? onset (slow - Fe def, rapid - acute haemolytic anaemia)
Signs
- Dyspnoea
- Bounding pulse
- Ejection systolic murmur
- Lymphadenopathy (eg. leukaemia, JRA)
- Hepatosplenomegaly (eg. leukaemia)
- Skin rash
- jaundice
- Dysmorphia (inherited anaemia)
Investigations
Bloods:
- FBC
- Fe studies
- Reticulocyte count (normocytic)
- Blood smear (macrocytic)
- Coombs (autoimmune ab)
