Ambulatory BP monitoring for:
Management
Investigations:
Target: 140/90 or 130/80 if diabetic or microalbuminuria or worse
Non-pharm:
Pharm: (if consistently >160/100)
NOTE: Do not use both ACEI and ARB

- Ischaemic Stroke
- Retinopathy
- Intracerebral haemorrhage
- LVH
- Ischaemic/ nonischaemic HF
Diagnosis
2 separate occasions of office BP measurement >140/90
Ambulatory BP monitoring for:
- White coat hypertension
- Wide variations in BP reading
- Postural hypotension
- Hypertension resistant to drug treatments
Management
Investigations:
- ECG
- Urinalysis
- UEC
- BSL
- Lipids
Target: 140/90 or 130/80 if diabetic or microalbuminuria or worse
Non-pharm:
- DASH (dietary approaches to stop hypertension) diet
- Salt reduction (<4g/day)
- Exercise
- Stop smoking/ alcohol
Pharm: (if consistently >160/100)
- ACEI/ ARB
- Calcium Channel blockers (Dihydropyridine - Amlodipine)
- Thiazide diuretics
NOTE: Do not use both ACEI and ARB
